Old steel gates featuring oak trees and old brick columns stand beneath old oak and ash trees

At Panamona, we always aim to design gardens that are bespoke to the client’s needs and desires. We regard functionality as highly as we do aesthetics and will always strive for the perfect balance between the two. We love to work with natives and/ or perennials to create naturalistic, biodiverse gardens that reflect Tasmania’s changing seasons, facilitating a greater human connection with the natural world. While this is our stylistic preference, we are alway happy to explore other design styles that may be more applicable to our clients’ visions and preferences.

  • Every design process starts with a consultation with Arlyn, preferably on site, where you can discuss your needs/ desires for the garden and your personal style and plant preferences (if you have any). While on site, he can also gain a greater understanding about site conditions and context.

Consultations within the Devonport/ Port Sorell area are currently free. Locations outside of this area will incur a fee to cover travel costs. All consultations are completely obligation free, so you may find that the consultation is all you need to guide you on your own design journey.

  • Using the information gathered at the consultation, Arlyn will put together a rough concept plan for you, featuring key plant selections, sketches and moodboards that express the general feel of your potential new garden.

This step ensures that we are on the same page before we begin to delve into the finer details.

  • Once we have agreed on the direction of our concept design, we can develop a detailed master plan that outlines the specific layout and planting plan of your garden.

If you are using a contractor or installing the garden yourself, we will also provide all of the relevant construction documentation needed to ensure the design is implemented as intended.

  • At Panamona, we love to see our designs through from start to finish and prefer to undertake their construction for you. As they are our designs we can also avoid the need to produce many of the construction documents, reducing your design fees.

As a small operation, larger scale gardens and some more complex construction elements may need to be outsourced to guarantee punctuality and the highest quality finish. Where this is applicable, we are happy to oversee projects to ensure the desired outcome is achieved.

  • We generally prefer to source and plant all of the plants in our designs to ensure that plant quality and health is optimised. If you are self building or using a contractor, we are also happy to assist in plant placement, guaranteeing correct plant location, spacing and orientation.

  • We offer ongoing maintenance for all of our designs to ensure their success and longevity. Depending on your preference, this could be a regular fortnightly or monthly check up, a short term program to monitor the garden while it is establishing, or a sporadic catch up for general advice and seasonal pruning where applicable.
